Search Results

We try to show the most useful and relevant results in response to consumer searches.  Users can sort their search results in different ways, and Ourblex has several filters that users can apply to further narrow their search results.  We typically will show advertisements or sponsored results (which are paid for by our advertisers) before showing you all search results (which are numbered and not paid for) in response to your search query, and may also show such advertisements elsewhere on designated sections of search results pages.

Sorting options on Ourblex include:

  • Near Me”: reorders results by giving more weight to the distance between you and businesses that are relevant to the query.
  • “Open Now”: This default sort option on iOS platforms in the USA and Canada reorders results by giving more weight to the preferencesyou may have selected.
  • Best Match”: sort option on most platforms orders results based on a number of different factors, including the user’s search terms, and the distance, ratings, user engagement data, and reviews of businesses that are relevant to the query.
  • Highest rated”: This sort option reorders results by giving more weight to the overall star rating of businesses that are relevant to the query.
  • Most Reviewed”: This sort option reorders results by giving more weight to the overall number of reviews of businesses that are relevant to the query.
  • Most Viewed”: This sort option reorders results by giving more weight to the overall number of page views of businesses that are relevant to the query.
  • Categories”: This filter option, filters results by business categories that are relevant to the query.

The review snippets that appear on search results pages are determined algorithmically, like the search rankings themselves. Which review is ultimately highlighted is determined by several factors, including keyword relevance and whether the review is currently recommended.

The process behind this is entirely automated, so while review snippets can’t be manually changed upon request, they may change over time as more reviews are posted.

You can find almost any type of local business on Ourblex. Use the search bar near the top of your screen to search for key terms (e.g., lawyer, burger, plumber, delivery/takeout or the name of a specific business). Use the location bar to set the geographic region you want to search (e.g., city, neighborhood or your current location).

You’ll see some suggested filtering options above your results, which allow you to fine-tune your search results based on factors like price, accept credit cards, and more filtering options. You can see additional filtering options by selecting business. You can also use filters to sort your results in different ways.

When you add a business to Ourblex, it has to be evaluated by our moderators before it appears in search results. If you added a business recently but you cannot find it in search, it’s likely that it still has to be evaluated – please do not submit the same business multiple times.

This process may take a while depending on our ability to independently verify any submissions, and we will sometimes reject a submission if we are unable to independently confirm the business or if the business is not eligible for Ourblex.

What kind of places can I review on Yelp?

Ourblex has a multitude of categories of business types that users can review – almost any business that you have a local experience or interaction with.

What should I include in my review?

The best reviews are passionate and personal. They offer a rich narrative, a wealth of detail, and a helpful tip or two for other consumers.

Think about your recent experience at a business – could you put details in there that would help future consumers like you?

  • Try detailing your favorite (or least favorite) dishes at your local restaurant.
  • Talk about an experience that will keep you coming back (or staying away) for years to come.
  • Highlight an employee who went the extra mile to make your experience memorable.
  • Include tips about the best time to arrive, where to park, or where the best seating is.
  • Describe why you’ll be using this service (plumber, caterer, contractor, etc.) again for your next project.

What should I leave out of my review?

You should aim to keep your review accurate and reflective of a genuine, personal experience. For example, personal opinions (“the food here is the best”) are good.

More details about what to leave out of your review can be found in Ourblex’s Content Guidelines.

Reporting an Inappropriate Photo / Video

Ourblex’s Content Guidelines encourage business owners and community members to post photos and videos that reflect the typical consumer experience (e.g., what the business looks like, what the business offers, etc.).

Here are some examples of photos or videos that may be removed from areas of a business page:

  • Lower-quality photos and videos, especially those that are blurry or dark.
  • Uniquely personal experiences, such as your group of friends at a bar or a fly in your soup. These may be removed from the photo gallery but still appear in your review of the business.
  • Offers or promotions (such as a coupon). Ourblex does allow businesses to post stock photos and logos from their marketing materials, as well as a single promotional video as part of a Ourblex advertising program.

If you see a photo or video that you believe may violate Ourblex’s policies or guidelines, please report it.

Most photos and videos that are taken in public, or on private property that is open to the public, do not violate anyone’s reasonable expectation of privacy, so we generally leave them up.

We may remove close-ups of unsuspecting patrons if the photos or videos don’t tell us much about the business. Our Content Guidelines state that business photos and videos should be broadly representative of the business and reflect the typical consumer experience (e.g., what the business looks like, what the business offers, etc.).

If you see a photo or video that you believe may violate Ourblex’s policies or guidelines, please report it so our moderators can take a look.

Please see our infringement policy.

If you can provide us with the information required under the infringement policy, please contact our Support team.
